A community Safe Space coffee morning launched at the town hall in Maldon on Wednesday 9th September to give people who potentially have been on their own during lockdown an opportunity to meet others in a COVID secure space.
The session, run by local charity Maldon and District CVS, has a number of risk measures in place to create a safe environment for people who may have anxiety around accessing commercial venues.
The first session was held on the morning after initial announcements from central Government on forthcoming changes to social gatherings. There was initially some concern that these changes would have an impact on future sessions but organisers are pleased to announce that an exemption for charitable activities will mean that they will continue.
Sarah Troop, director at Maldon and District CVS said “the first session went really well, the measures put in place to maintain distancing and control virus transmission worked really well, people were pleased to be able to chat face to face and catch up with friends, for some it had been a long time since they had that contact and so it really meant something.
We have been watching the Government announcements with interest to ensure we can continue to offer this opportunity to the community and are pleased to say we can continue to take bookings for the coming weeks”
Attendance at the session must be pre-booked by calling 01621 851891 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Full details of what to expect from sessions can be found online at www.maldoncvs.org.uk/corona/safe-space
