14 August 2019
Tuesday 13th August saw the first playing out scheme in the Maldon District. Supported by Maldon and District CVS and the Maldon Family Hub a group of families in Mayland organised a road closure for a couple of hours to enable children to “play out”. The session which lasted two hours saw children and parents enjoying themselves with active games and activities. Older neighbours also took advantage of the closure to pop their head out on the street and reminisce about the times when they used to play out on the streets.
Playing out is a national scheme that encourages outdoor play within streets as an opportunity for children to be active and for neighbours to meet each other and build connections. The scheme in Mayland is thought to be the first in Essex and due to the success plans are already underway for a second event in the October half term.
Maldon and District CVS are keen to support other streets to arrange similar playing out sessions. If you would like to have a playing out session on your street get in touch and we can help with the administrative side. Call 01621851891 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
