Community Response Update

1 November 2020

Central Government announced yesterday a return to Lockdown from the 5th November 2020. Members of the public are being restricted to essential journeys only with no household mixing and some businesses are being required to close. The guidance does not go so far as to reinstate shielding however people who were previoulsy shielded are being advised to limit their contact with others as far as possible.

This may mean that we see people beginning to need support with prescription collection or with food provision. Partners in the Maldon Coronavirus response team have been putting out messaging to encourage people to contact the helpline since Essex moved into Tier 2 on the 17th October and to date we have not seen an increase in requests for help.

At the current time the Helpline remains 10am-4pm Mon-Fri however this is under ongoing review and there is a shadow rota of volunteer call handlers on standby should we see an increase in people calling for help. Please see below reminder of the phone number which can be shared with anyone who needs support during the 2nd Lockdown.

In mid September Essex County Council reconvened Operation Shield community hub meetings and locally we have matched these with fortnightly catch ups between Maldon and District CVS, Maldon District Council, Essex County Council and the Salvation Army to keep local activity under constant review. The last meeting took place just after the move to Tier 2 and included feedback from people who we had been supporting during the previous lockdown. The feedback was that people generally felt able to cope with essential supplies but knew how to get in touch should they need us, however there was a pattern of feedback suggesting ongoing anxiety in the community about the virus and how to stay safe.

The weekly Coronavirus response meeting is not being recalled at the current time however the next Community Forum meeting will take place on the 10th November at 11am and it is expected that the impact of Lockdown will be one of the topics for discussion. Anyone who wishes to attend is welcome. Please get in touch for details
