Blokes encouraged to get healthy

11 June 2018

A new initiative to encourage men to get healthy was launched in Maldon on Saturday.

BLOKES! is a new social initiative for men in the Maldon District being set up with a wellbeing twist, it looks to encourage guys to get together to make positive changes in their lives  This new group will host monthly headline events and will help guys get together to share interests or to try something new.

The launch event on Saturday included a presentation from Chris Booth from Mens health charity CHAPS and an opportunity for attendees to meet local providers such as Walking Football, Wellbeing Walks, FitSteps and Park Runs, healthy eating and stopping smoking and the Men’s Shed.  A popular service was a free BMI test by Ace Weight Management.

Linda Allen, who works for Maldon and District CVS the charity behind the initiative says “Blokes is for men who want to add years to their life and life to their years, we learnt at the presentation on Saturday that one in five men dies before they are 65 and there are a number of health inequalities faced by men. However one of the key issues is that Men don’t think enough about their health and BLOKES is set up to help that”
