18th May - ONE OFF
Can you spare an hour or two to collect at your local Tesco store to help raise funds for Macmillan?
Collections will take place at the Maldon store Friday 29 and Saturday 30 June 2012 9am to 6pm and volunteers are needed to help out for a few hours at a time.

Essex National Trust volunters are looking for people to give up some free time to carry out practical conservation work at National Trust sites throughout Essex. This can be a  variety of practical hands-on tasks, usually two per month on a Sunday and additionally midweek, throughout the year at locations such as Danbury, Hatfield Forest & Copt Hall. Tasks include coppicing, footpath maintenance, hedgerow planting, tree felling, and scrub clearance.

Chelmsford Women's Aid are looking for someone with a good attention to detail and a non-judgemental empathetic ear to help run the administrative part of their Outreach Service.  Confidentiality and discretion are key to this role as well as the ability to be supportive and encouraging.  The role will be office based in Chelmsford and will involve answering the phone and deal with the caller appropriately; you will be taking calls from clients, self referrers as well as professionals from all sorts of agencies such as Social Services, Police, Schools and Children Centres.

Volunteers are needed to support learning with a range of individuals or small groups within classes. This can include helping to motivate students and encourage participation and giving guidance. Because of the nature of the work it would be desirable for those wishing to become a volunteer to have English and Maths at Level 2. 

Once allocated to a class,  volunteers would need to commit to attending on a regular basis. The classes are usually 2 hours and run term time only.

Dengie Events run three annual Triathlon events in the district and are looking for a team of volunteers who can help with the running of the events. This will include helping the athletes have a safe and enjoyable day by keeping them on track throughout the swim, cycle and run. 

Events will take place on:

  • Sunday July 15thMaldon Promenade Park
  • Sunday July 29th – Fambridge
  • Sunday 12th August – Bradwell Waterside. 

Volunteers can give a few hours on one or all of these days as preferred.

A driver is needed to help people to access a disabled social club in Cold Norton.
The club runs on a Wednesday afternoon and a volunteer would need to be availalbe from apprx midday to pick people up to bring into the club. If desired the volunteer could stay and be part of the clubs activities before dropping people home at approx 3:30pm

Essex Libraries are looking for young people who show enthusiasm and commitment to volunteer for a minimum of 15 hours to support the Summer Reading Challenge in local libraries from 21st July to 8th September. You will be working with children, their parents and carers. Closing date for applications  13th June 2012.

The British Heart Foundation shop are looking for a driver to help pick up doantions for their Maldon shop. If you have some spare time, enjoy meeting new people and have a care to collect donations then get in touch. Mileage paid. Hours to suit.

The Spinal Injuries Association is seeking a volunteer to work alongside the fundraising team to assist with the management of SIA collection boxes in your local area.

One Place managed by the Dengie Project Trust are looking to enhance the knowledge and awareness of services provided by recruiting a One Place Champion in each village across the Maldon District.

Volunteers will to provide individuals within their own community with information and knowledge needed to lead rich, healthy and informed lives.  This may also include joining One Place on Wheels.

Friends of Moot Hall are looking for a Treasurer.  This is an opportunity to join a busy and successful group of volunteers who run the Moot Hall as an attraction in the Town with the only Civil Ceremonies licence in the town centre of Maldon.

The management group meets monthly to plan and report on activities and the Treasurer would be part of the team by processing financial transactions and keeping records in accordance with requirement of the Charity Commission
.

The Essex Blind Charity supports visually impaired people in the county and have a drop in resource centre on the first Wednesday of the month in Burnham on Crouch. 

They are looking for a volunteer who can help by giving information and demonstrating and selling equipment for people with visual impairments. This is also a place where visually impaired people will be welcome to drop in for a coffee and chat about their sight concerns so we want volunteers to help make them feel welcome and relaxed.

Voluntary Sector Training are looking for new trustees with an interest in training! Can you help?
Voluntary Sector training (VST) provides high quality, affordable and relevant training courses for charities and community organisations throughout Essex. VST started off in Uttlesford in 1999 with the help of a lottery grant and since then has expanded both geographically and in the range of our programme - we trained 1800 people on 150 courses last year.

However in light of the current funding situation, VST's trustees have identified the need to expand both its own operation, and that of its trading company, to be able to become sustainable in the long term. To this end they are now seeking trustees to join them that have particular expertise in business and finance.

The Maldon and Burnham Talking Newspaper are looking for a volunteer to help, once a month, with the copying and distribution of the tapes made up to send out to listeners of The Talking Newspaper. It would take about an hour and half and could be done split over Thursday and Friday or all on Friday, if preferred.

Trustees are needed to join the board of the Maeldune Heritage Centre The Maeldune Heritage Centre provides a free facility for the public to access the history and heritage of Maldon and surrounding areas. It houses the Maldon millennium Embroidery, the Maldon society's photographic archives on computer and information and artefacts from the Maldon Archaeological and Historical group. In addition we also host rolling displays of artwork by local artists.

Trustees meet approximately every six weeks at the Centre, There may be some duties inbetween meetings supporting the manager and attending events at the centre.

A volunteer is needed to help put together the quarterly magazine for the Maldon Museum. The role will require an energetic, locally motivated person who is able to arrange and collate articles for the magazine. Good communication skills and computer skills essential and an interest in local history a advantage.

Are you someone who values the countryside and the environment? If you are then why not join Campaign to Protect Rural Essex (CPREssex) and be part of a group of like minded individuals dedicated to protecting and enhancing the local countryside and environment in your area
The Maldon District group is currently looking for a volunteer to take on the role of Chair as well as volunteers to be part of the local group.

Buddies Children’s Centre is a registered charity providing care and education to pre-school children of all abilities. They are looking for a volunteer to fill the committee role of company secretary as well as volunteers to become general committee members. 

Trustee meetings are held six weekly at the Centre and trustees are expected to take on some roles outside of the meetings, this is not envisaged to be more than a few hours per month

Community First Responders are volunteers who are trained to assist the Ambulance Service on certain categories of 999 calls. Could you help to save life?  Be on call with a defribulator for a set shift to provide front-line assistance to people suffering from cardiac arrest before the ambulance arrives.
Volunteers are needed urgently in Heybridge and Maldon area. Get in touch for more information.

Waste buster volunteers are needed to act as advocates for waste reduction within their communities through promoting the Love Food Hate Waste scheme and the various ways people can be involved. The role will include promoting home composting and the Love Food Hate Waste campaign at local event,  talking to community groups covering topics such as meal planning and portion sizes or anything else that suits your skills or helps you follow your passions!

The Farleigh Hospice annual sponsored Walk for Life is being held on Sunday 13th May. Over 150 volunteers are needed on the day, with roles that include Greeters, Registration, Information Desk, Route Marshals, Check point helpers etc, Please get in touch if you can  spare a few hours to suport this important fundraising event

Maldon Library is part of a pilot scheme to support job seekers to find work. Volunteers are needed to support  job-seekers who need help in using I.T. to access and use internet job seeking resources. This will include assisting people to navigate job sites, set up Emails, use CV builder websites and other online skills to help them wit their job search.
Time is flexible but likely to be for one half day session per week

National Charity Wellchild are looking for volunteers to support their Marathon runners in London on April 22nd at  WellChild cheer points around the course.
They will provide T-shirts, cheer sticks, banners and ponchos - all we need is energy and enthusiasm. Volunteers are needed from around 9.00am until 4pm so if you can do all or some of this time, please get in touch

Essex Gay (EGM) are looking for volunteers to help at their regular drop in sessions in various locations across the county including Maldon. This will include welcoming people into the sessions and providing support.
They are also looking for volunteers to help with their PR and promotion and also to attend events as an ambassador.

A volunteer is needed to support the online magazine Dancing Giraffe by assisting with the analysis of regular news feeds to inform articles and information provided by the magazine.
This will include identifying RSS feeds that hold information relevant and of interest to disabled people and analysing them for delivery to disabled people and providing the editorial lead with the information necessary.
