Who we are?

Viking Community Transport is the operating name of Maldon and District Community Transport. We are a non-profit-making-organisation with charity status, currently funded by Essex County Council and Maldon District Council.

Our Aims
We aim to provide affordable transport for those people in the Maldon District who are without their own transport and whose needs are not met by public transport services.

History
On 1st March 2008 Essex County Council relinquished control of Viking Community Transport (VCT) to a newly formed non-profit making subsidiary of Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service (CVS) called Maldon District Community Transport (MDCT).

MDCT continues to operate in much the same way as VCT, providing transport for residents in the District of Maldon who, for any reason, cannot access private or public transport.
MDCT is a member of the national Community Transport Association (C.T.A)

Staff
We have four permanent staff, the project co-ordinator, an administrator/scheduler and two drivers.

Volunteers
We rely heavily on volunteer drivers who give their time freely and provide the bulk of our transport services.  Volunteers use their own vehicles to convey members, or drive one of Viking’s fleet of minibuses, after having undertaken additional training.
