The
Supported Volunteering Project is here to provide a helping hand to
people who wish to become a volunteer, but may feel they need a bit of
extra support.
Volunteering is a gentle, low stress way of entering a working environment to bring routine and structure to the day, and of building social networks. Many people involved with the Supported Volunteering project have said that through volunteering their confidence and self esteem has grown and that they feel less isolated and more part of the community. Volunteering has given structure, direction and meaning to peoples' lives, widened their social networks, improved their vocational and interpersonal skills and in some instances helped them to gain access to employment, education and training. The project aims to make these benefits accessible to peoplein the Maldon District with extra support needs, (including support needs resulting from mental ill health or learning disability). It works on a case-by-case basis, meeting with potential volunteers to discuss their interests and support needs, and responding, as far as possible, to these needs. We could offer support at initial contact with a volunteer-involving organisation, on the first day, or on a longer term basis |
